Thrifty Christmas Decor — Old Window Shutter Ornament Frame

Filed in DIY, Thrifty Decor

I love a good find at the thrift store — especially when I can use it for Christmas decor!  So let’s get right to it, shall we?

Old window shutters that I purchased for $2 each.  I used just one.   BEFORE:

I had visions of an heirloom white shutter distressed and hung with ornaments.  So I painted it with Rustoleum heirloom white spray paint (in the photo on the left) and sanded it down to let some of the original color through.

Add some Dollar Tree ornaments hung with ribbon and voila!  You get this for just under $5 (not counting the spray paint which I already had on hand):

I can’t take a picture that does it justice.  It is so pretty, especially at night.

So pretty and clever! I saw shutters similar to those at goodwill about a month ago, at the time I was too uninspired to buy them. My loss!

  12. What a creative idea! The candlelight really makes the inexpensive ornaments shine. What’s so great about it is that it’s adaptable to any size shutter or frame – can’t find a shutter, pick up a couple picture frames at yard sales and ribbon them or screw them together. A project to add for next year’s decor!

WOW! I am so impressed with how you can look at this and have a vision! I can copy ideas all day long but coming up with an original idea? HA! You have such great vision! Glad to find you!!

Thank you, Norma — that means a lot to me. Just so you know, I do A LOT of copying too. Or sometimes I’ll take an idea and tweak it. Stick with whatever works for you and your sense of style. Mine is always evolving.

    Take care,
    Jen
